11th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser is coming up

Plank Gym on the Gettysburg College Campus will again be the site of the Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser next Friday, April 26th, from 4-7 p.m. Hosted by The Gleaning Project, it brings together artists, businesses, restaurants, and philanthropists to make a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity and the need for nutritious produce to be available to community members in need.

The concept of the Empty Bowls Fundraiser is simple yet powerful. Talented local artists donate handcrafted bowls that serve as both functional art pieces and symbolic representations of the empty bowls in our community. Attendees choose a bowl from the collection and enjoy a heartwarming soup supper, where local restaurants have donated delicious soup to enjoy. The meal is a simple reminder of the many individuals who face hunger daily, and it includes soup, bread, beverages, and dessert.

In exchange for their chosen bowl and a delicious meal, attendees purchase a ticket. All funds raised directly support The Gleaning Project’s initiatives to rescue surplus produce from going into landfills and provide nutritious produce to those who need it most in our community.

The funds raised at the Empty Bowls Fundraiser will enable The Gleaning Project to expand its efforts in rescuing surplus produce and distributing it to local food banks, shelters, and community organizations, thus providing fresh, nutritious produce alongside the foods distributed by local food pantries.

The event also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the critical issue of food insecurity in the region, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.

A few pre-sale tickets are available for $20 each, and tickets at the door are $25 each.
