2020 Gettysburg Parking Update Includes Three-hour Meters

If you regularly come to Gettysburg, it’s probably because of all the things the borough has to offer. It’s full of shopping, films, restaurants, theater, people-watching, and more.

To allow you to enjoy Gettysburg more fully, the borough has increased the time limit on the short-term parking meters nearest the square. These meters, which formerly allowed only two hours parking, have now been expanded to three hours. This gives you more time to have a meal and catch a movie or show or have an extended dinner at one of the town’s many eateries.

Parking rates have not changed in 2020 at any of the borough’s 319 meters. Parking is $2.00 per hour for meters on the square, $1.50 per hour for meters within one block of the square or anywhere on Steinwehr Ave., and $1.00 per hour for other short-term meters.

For meters on the square, payments must be made using the Passport Parking App which charges a convenience fee of $.35. All other meters take quarters, dimes, and nickels as well as the parking app.

There are also long-term parking meters with 12-hour limits in areas farther from the square.

If your errand is a short one, the borough also offers five 20-minute parking spaces, one each on Lincoln Square and the first blocks of Chambersburg, Carlisle, Baltimore, and York streets. These meters cost $.50 for 20 minutes and do not allow a grace period.

All borough parking meters are enforced between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Each meter is marked with hours of enforcement and time limits permitted.

Check out the borough’s interactive parking map to find the closest and cheapest parking spot.

Although it is almost always possible to find a parking space on the street, there are also three public parking lots.
