2024 Adams County Primary draws few voters and creates few surprises

The Adams County Elections Office has reported results from all 51 precincts in today’s primary. All mail-in and in-person ballots have been counted, but the results will remain unofficial until next week.

The primary set up local candidates for the 2024 general election which will be held on Tuesday, November 5. In addition to president and vice president, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and about 1/3 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.

Many races at the state and local levels were uncontested in the primary.

Local Turnout

There was a small turnout with only 17,459 out of 60,313 registered voters casting ballots (29 percent). Turnout was higher for Democrats (32 percent of registered voters) than Republicans (27 percent of registered voters).

About a third of the ballots were mail-in.

Local Results

The primary finalized a contested races for U.S. Representative in the 13th district between Republican incumbent John Joyce and Adams County Democratic challenger Beth Farnham.

There will also be a race between incumbent Doug Mastriano and Franklin County Democrat Cameron Shroy in the State General Assembly 33rd District.

Republican state representatives Dan Moul and Torren Ecker will run unopposed in the fall.

Democrats Matthew Gribler and Lisa Kramer were elected as delegates to the Democratic National Convention in the 13th District.

Bill Ward, Jim Foreman, and Juanita Byler were elected as Delegates to the Republican National Convention in the 13th District. Linda McClure and Judy Ward were elected as Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention in the 13th District

In the Harrisburg Area, a closely-watched race between incumbent Republican Scott Perry and Democratic challenger Janelle Stelson has been set up for the U.S. District 10 House seat.

State Results: Democrats

On the Democratic side, Joe Biden was elected as the PA candidate for U.S. President and Robert Casey won as the candidate for U.S. Senator.

For Attorney General, Eugene DePasquale won the most votes.

Malcolm Kenyatta defeated Mark Pinsley for Auditor General

For State Treasurer, Erin McClelland defeated Ryan Bizzarro

State and National Results: Republicans

On the Republican side, Donald J. Trump won as PA presential candidate and Dave McCormick won for U.S. Senator.

Dave Sunday was elected to run for Attorney General.

For Auditor General, Tim Defoor won in an uncontested race.

Running unopposed, Stacy Garrity was elected to run for State Treasurer in the fall.
