The PA Ag Discovery Center is one step closer to construction, having completed due diligence and settled on a 25 acre site in Mount Joy Township for its agricultural educational destination. Located on Gettysburg Village Drive adjacent to and south of the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg, the facility will complement existing amenities and create a dynamic visitor experience that blends education, tourism, and commerce.
“Securing this site is a major step toward realizing our vision of a world-class destination that connects people to agriculture and its vital role in our lives” said David Smith, Chairman of the PA Ag Discovery Center’s Board. “This center will inspire future generations, promoting workforce opportunities within Pennsylvania’s agricultural sector.”
The Discovery Center will serve as a hub for agricultural education, tourism, and economic development, offering STEM-integrated exhibits, food labs, immersive experiences, and outdoor features such as a playground and event space. These experiences will advance the center’s mission to inform visitors and motivate youth to pursue careers related to agriculture. Once complete, the facility is projected to attract 175,000 annual visitors, including school groups, families, and tourists from across the region.
Adams County Commissioner Randy Phiel emphasized the project’s importance to the region, stating “Agriculture is the backbone of Adams County’s economy and culture, and this project reinforces our commitment to preserving and promoting that legacy. We are proud to support an initiative that will educate, engage, and enrich our community for decades to come.”
Beyond its educational mission, the center will generate significant economic benefits by stimulating local businesses, creating jobs, and hosting community events that foster civic pride. The center will boost nearby hospitality, retail, and dining establishments by drawing visitors from across Pennsylvania and beyond.
“The Discovery Center will be a catalyst for economic growth and tourism in Adams County” added Robin Fitzpatrick, Board Member and President of the Adams Economic Alliance. “It’s an investment in education, workforce development, and community vitality that will benefit residents and businesses alike.”
With the site secured, the PA Ag Discovery Center has progressed to advancing the building’s design and permitting. For questions or comments, please contact Robin Fitzpatrick at rfitzpatrick@adamsalliance.org.
