67th Grammy Awards May Be Postponed Amid Wildfires, Potentially Shift to Fundraising Event

As Los Angeles battles devastating wildfires, the fate of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards hangs in the balance. Scheduled for February 2 at Crypto.com Arena, the event may be postponed or reimagined as a fundraiser, sources reveal.

The fires, which have claimed thousands of structures and left many displaced, have significantly impacted the city, including members of the music industry. Artists, publicists, and label staff are among those affected, with instruments, homes, and workplaces lost to the flames.

Discussions led by Recording Academy head Harvey Mason Jr. are exploring multiple options, including postponement or transforming the broadcast into a fundraising event. MusiCares, the Grammys’ charitable foundation, is planning a January 30 benefit concert at the Intuit Dome, with participating artists and broadcast partners to be announced.

Logistical challenges, including hotel accommodations and venue availability, complicate holding the event as planned. This wouldn’t be the first time the Grammys faced delays; recent ceremonies were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Crypto.com Arena, which has already postponed sports events to prioritize community needs, may not be ready for a major production. Meanwhile, the city grapples with the aftermath of its most destructive wildfire in history, with containment efforts ongoing.
