NHL Playoffs

In Philadelphia, rookie pitcher Mick Abel made an impressive major league debut, striking out nine batters over six innings to lead the Phillies to a 1–0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game’s only run came in the fifth inning when Brandon Marsh grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Nick Castellanos to score. (Newsday)
Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals powered past the Baltimore Orioles 10–4, completing a three-game sweep. CJ Abrams hit two home runs on the first two pitches he saw, and the Nationals totaled five homers in the game. (ESPN.com, CBSSports.com)
Gettysburg College
Sixth-ranked Gettysburg used a run of five straight goals in that period to open up a 15-9 lead on No. 20 Denison en route to a 16-13 victory over the Big Red in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Div. III women’s lacrosse championship tournament at Franklin & Marshall. For the third time in four years, the Bullets will spend the last full week in May traveling down Interstate 81. The 2025 Bullets punched their ticket to the national semifinals and will visit Kerr Stadium on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem, Va., with a big third quarter on Sunday.
Gettysburg takes on No. 1 Tufts in the second national semifinal on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
