November 1 at 7:30 pm – Little Women – The Musical @ Majestic Theater      Presented by students from the Gettysburg College Department of Theatre Arts and the Sunderman Conservatory of Music, this timeless, captivating story is brought to life in a glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope, and love. November 1 – 30 – Chinese Art Exhibits @Schmucker Art Gallery   Admission is free and the Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm. www.gettysburg.edu/gallery

November 3 at 12 and 7 pm – Great Art on Screen/ Lotto and Berenson: Crossed Destinies @ Majestic Theater   This film follows the intertwined journeys of Lorenzo Lotto, a forgotten Renaissance master, and Bernard Berenson, the American Jewish art critic who resurrected his legacy. Tickets are $18 and $10 for students under age 25.   www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 7 from 5-7 pm – New Art Exhibits/Reception @ Adams County Arts Council Celebrate First Friday and the opening of new art exhibits featuring ACAC Members, The Links community member artists, and David Harrison.Admission is free and so are the refreshments. Meet the artists and enjoy their creations.  www.adamsarts.org

November 7 at 7 pm – Poetry First Friday/Poet Matt Hohner @ Ragged Edge Coffeehouse   Join local poetry enthusiasts for an open mic followed by featured reader Matt Hohner. Grab some goodies downstairs and head upstairs for an evening of poetry. www.theraggededgecoffeehouse.com

November 7 at 8 pm – Sunderman Conservatory Wind Symphony Concert @ Majestic Theater Gettysburg College musicians will perform a concert of both contemporary and traditional band music under the baton of Dr. Russell McCutcheon.  Tickets are $5.  www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 9 at 2:30 pm – Jules Young, Tenor Voice Recital@ Schmucker Recital Hall        Gettysburg College senior Jules Young presents his senior recital singing art songs by Faure, Rossini, Mozart, Beach, Finzi, and Hahn.   Admission is free. www.gettysburg.edu/sunderman

November 14 @ 6 pm – Centennial Gala-Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Natalie MacMaster @ Majestic Theater   You are invited to celebrate 100 years of art and culture at the Majestic Theater! Multi-Grammy award winning ensemble, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will be joined by superstar Celtic fiddle and step-dancer Natalie MacMaster for a thrilling evening of music and celebration       at our very own downtown treasure, the Majestic, as we celebrate its birthday.  Tickets are $65/$85/$115 plus different packages are available including a post-show dinner celebration and a champagne toast. November 15 at 7 pm – Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital @ Christ Lutheran Church Prelude music begins at 7 pm, immediately followed by a one-hour program that takes place in the very building that was a Civil War hospital.This candlelight performance includes live music, readings from memoirs of folks who were there – including a solder and a nurse, poetry of Walt Whitman, and concludes with an excerpt from President Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address. Admission is free and freewill offerings are gratefully accepted.     www.christgettysburg.org

November 16 at 3 pm – Sunderman Conservatory Jazz Ensemble Concert @Majestic Theater   Gettysburg College students present their fall jazz concert with the addition of the Mariel Bildstein Septet. Bildstein is a New York City-based jazz trombonist, bandleader, and educator.  Tickets are $5.    www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 17 at 12 noon – Notes at Noon @ Musselman Library Apse, Gettysburg College              Please join the Sunderman Wind Quintet for “Autumn Music”.  The program includes works from David Maslanka, Gabriel Allier, and Jennifer Higdon. The concert features the faculty wind quintet and students from the Sunderman Conservatory. Light refreshments will be provided and admission is free.  www.gettysburg.edu/musselman

November 21 at 8 pm – Sunderman Conservatory Symphony Orchestra @ Majestic Theater Under the baton of Cesar Leal, Gettysburg College orchestra students present their autumn concert.  Tickets are $5.     www.gettysburgmajestic.org

November 22 at 4 pm – Philadelphia Bronze (handbell choir) @ United Lutheran Seminary Established in 2008 at the encouragement of several talented ringers who were in search of a challenging musical experience, the ensemble includes ringers from New Jersey, Delaware, Lancaster, and Bucks County and is directed by Hyosang Park. Come enjoy an afternoon of unbelievable virtuosity! This group plays an amazing variety of arrangements – popular, religious, and patriotic – but features faithful and awe-inspiring versions of orchestral pieces. Free admission and parking, freewill offering gratefully accepted. www.musicgettysburg.org

November 22 at 7 pm – Ben Jones Brass @ Gettysburg Community Theater  Bring your friends and enjoy an evening of brass quintet music with the Ben Jones Brass as they perform a program of traditional brass literature as well as some contemporary pieces. November 22/23 from 10 am-5 pm – Foothills Artists Studio Tour in the Fairfield Valley   Fourteen artists in eight different studio locations open their doors so we can meet the artists and enjoy the rich range of painting, pottery, photography, printmaking, woodworking, jewelry, enamels, fiber and textile arts, bookbinding, illustration, and stained glass.  Drive through the pleasant Fairfield valley as you spend the day visiting these artists in their studios. Nov. 28 at 7 pm/Nov. 29 at 2 pm – Home for the Holidays Piano Cabaret@ Gettysburg Community Theatre    These annual Christmas concerts feature GCT alumni who are home for Thanksgiving weekend. Under the direction of Carrie Conklin, the local children and adult performers will perform twice.  Audiences are encouraged to order tickets in advance online, as these tend to sell out. Tickets are $25.  www.GettysburgCommunityTheatre.org

November 30 at 7:30 pm – Advent Vespers @United Lutheran Seminary   Begin the Advent season with the Schola Cantorum of Gettysburg leading a service of Evening Prayer, featuring some of the greatest music of expectation and hope from across five centuries.  Admission and parking are free. www.musicgettysburg.org

Gail Jones

Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor. Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
