Obituary: James J. Weikert

James J. Weikert, 96, of Fairfield, died Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025, at Paramount Senior Living, Fayetteville, Pa.

Born May 31, 1929, in Fairfield, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Elizabeth (Eck) Weikert. He was the husband of the late JoAnne (Wortz) Weikert who passed away April 16, 2011.

Mr. Weikert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fairfield. He worked for 10 years at Reindollar’s Hardware store in Fairfield, then went on to work for 33 years at Knouse Foods. He also served as Justice of the Peace, Fairfield, Liberty Township secretary and treasurer, was a member of the Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce, and volunteered at the local food pantry.

In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and traveling, and was a voracious reader.

James is survived by his three children, Stephen Weikert and wife Dolores of Dumfries, Va., Douglas Weikert and his wife Catherine of Collegeville, Pa., and Kathy Stahl and husband Dennis of Chambersburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Ann Cornwell of Fairfield. He was preceded by his brother Donald Weikert and sister Nancy Kane.

A Memorial Mass for James will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road, Fairfield, with Father Peter DiTomasso as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the start of Mass on Wednesday morning at the church.
