The Gettysburg Borough Council meeting opened lasgt night with two major commendations from Acting Chief Sergeant Christopher Evans, who highlighted the professionalism and dedication of officers Alec Lardarello and B. William Orth.

Alec Lardarello was formally assigned to the position of Detective. Lardarello, who joined the Gettysburg Police Department in 2023, is a U.S. Army veteran who previously served as an infantryman from 2014 to 2017. Sergeant Evans praised Lardarello for his strong investigative work, noting that he has already taken the lead on complex cases involving sexual assault, burglary, criminal trespass, and firearms offenses. Lardarello is also pursuing a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in leadership, with an expected graduation in 2027. In addition to his new assignment, he was recognized for completing two years of service and was awarded the rank of Patrolman First Class.

The department also honored Master Patrol Officer B. William Orth for 20 years of service. Orth began his career in Gettysburg in 1993 and has served full-time since 2004. Over his decades in law enforcement, he has been part of the Adams County Drug Task Force, served as a criminal investigator, and participated in the department’s motorcycle and mounted patrol units. He currently serves as acting sergeant for Patrol Squad A.

Evans praised Orth for his longstanding commitment to the community and his leadership within the department before presenting him with a plaque recognizing his service.

The council also approved a motion to make a conditional appointment of Katherine Masesie as an entry-level patrol officer, to become effective on January 1, 2026.  Masesie is the first-ranked candidate on the eligibility list.

During public comment, borough resident Sarah Kipp praised the department for the appointment. “I wanted to thank you for whatever you did to attract different candidates and to consider them and appoint them,” she said.
