Before the film viewing, Pat Shoap will give an overview of some crucial facts related to the gun violence epidemic in the U.S. Following the film there will be a discussion with refreshments.

As many people recognize, “Run, Hide, Fight” is the active-shooter protocol that children are taught in public schools today. In this film, student journalists show how gun violence shapes the lives of young Americans, especially in a North Philadelphia middle school.

Some 3 million children witness gun violence each year in the U.S. In addition to immediate dangers, exposure to gun violence increases mental health risks for children, including higher rates of suicide.

Organizers will consider what can be done to lower the rate of gun violence in schools and what policies and leadership are needed.

If the YMCA is closed because of snow or a wintry mix on Jan. 11, the showing will be postponed to a snow date of Jan. 25, also at 2 p.m., in the Gettysburg YMCA Community Room. Come and consider solutions with others who care about U.S. children!
