Roxanna Gapstur, president and chief executive officer of WellSpan Health, has again been recognized as one of the nation’s most influential health care leaders by Modern Healthcare, marking her third consecutive appearance on the publication’s annual “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” list.
The national honor highlights executives and innovators whose leadership and vision are shaping the future of health care. Gapstur’s continued recognition reflects her role in positioning WellSpan as a leader in care transformation, technology adoption and value-based health care delivery.
Under Gapstur’s leadership, WellSpan has emphasized innovation grounded in human-centered design, with a focus on making care more accessible and easier for patients while improving efficiency across the health system. The organization has been an early adopter of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to streamline operations and enhance the patient experience.
WellSpan has also pursued partnerships to co-develop new clinical capabilities, including a comprehensive collaboration with General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Transformation Co. Those efforts have supported faster imaging results, expanded access to care through an AI-powered care assistant, and reduced administrative burdens through tools such as ambient listening, virtual nursing and robotics. System leaders say those initiatives allow clinicians to spend more time connecting directly with patients.
Gapstur’s tenure has also been marked by gains in quality, safety and patient experience, along with strong financial performance. WellSpan holds AA bond ratings from both Fitch and Moody’s and is on pace for a third straight year of high performance within its accountable care network, which includes approximately 3,000 aligned providers. That work in value-based care was recently recognized with the National Association of ACOs’ 2025 Excellence Award.
WellSpan’s board leadership has credited Gapstur with driving a forward-looking approach that blends innovation with a commitment to equity and community health, helping prepare the system for the evolving demands of modern health care.
Based in York, WellSpan Health is a mission-driven nonprofit system that includes nine hospitals and more than 250 care locations across the region. According to its 2025 Community Impact Report, WellSpan provided $364.7 million in community benefits over the past year and generated nearly $9 billion in overall economic impact.
