Obituary: Paul W. Hall

Paul W. Hall, 94, Buchanan Valley, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 25, 1931, in Buchanan Valley, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John I. and Virgie Irvin Hall. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Hall, a son, Gregory P. Hall, and his wife Heather of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, a grandson, Joseph C. Hall and wife Julia, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Papp and husband Bertalan Papp of Glendale, Arizona and a great-grandson, Henry N. Gregor. He was predeceased by a son, John I. Hall, brothers and sisters, Joseph Hall, Emma Hall, Harry Hall, Mary Neiderer, Elizabeth Wentz, Francis Hall, John Hall, Eileen Hall and Ann Hall.

Mr. Hall was a 1949 graduate of Gettysburg High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy for funeral Masses for 50 years and sang in the choir for many years. Mr. Hall volunteered at the Buchanan Valley Picnic for his entire life and served as chairman for 20 years. He was also the Boy Scout leader of Troop 128, Buchanan Valley St. Ignatius Church. Paul was a fruit farmer in Buchanan Valley involved with the family business, Hall Brothers’ Fruit Farm, his entire life. He was a founding member of Knouse Foods Cooperative, Inc., and a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He was a Life member of the Arendtsville Fire Company, the Gettysburg Elks Club and the Adams County Fish & Game Association as well as the Knights of Columbus. He loved to hunt and fish and was a founding member of the Buchanan Valley Rod and Gun Club, Inc., serving as Treasurer for 20 years. He was also a member of Camp 18 for 51 years. His hobby was woodworking.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM from St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Orrtanna, Pennsylvania, with Fr. Joseph R. Howard as celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the Loyola Center on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
