Glass recycling is available Saturdays for Adams County residents

Adams County residents are reminded that a convenient glass recycling opportunity is available this Saturday and on the first Saturday of every month.

The Adams County Glass Recycling Drop-Off will be open Saturday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at Adams County Emergency Services, 230 Greenamyer Lane in Gettysburg. The program is hosted in partnership with Cumberland Township and provides a local option for recycling glass items that are not accepted in curbside programs.

The drop-off site accepts glass bottles and jars only. Items such as auto glass, mirrors, ceramics, plate glass and china are not permitted and should not be brought to the site. Organizers emphasize that keeping non-accepted materials out of the bins helps ensure the glass recycling process remains safe and effective.

The recycling center operates rain or shine and has been held on the first Saturday of each month since November 2023. The regular schedule is intended to give residents a dependable outlet to responsibly dispose of glass while reducing landfill waste.

Residents are encouraged to rinse bottles and jars before bringing them to the site and to transport glass safely. Volunteers and signage are typically on hand to help direct traffic and answer basic questions during the drop-off hours.

Glass recycling plays an important role in local waste reduction efforts, as glass can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality. By using the monthly drop-off, residents help conserve resources and support sustainability efforts across Adams County.

More information about the Gettysburg-area glass recycling program, including accepted materials and updates, is available online at www.gettysburggreengathering.com/gettysburg-glass-recyling-program-information/.

Not to interfere, but there is a recycling center in northern Adams County on most Saturdays at the Latimore township office from 10:00 to 12:00. You can recycle glass, metal cans, aluminum cans, cardboard, office paper (no plastic windows), plastics #1,2,5, newspapers, and various other items. See info at the township website.
