An open letter to the Adams County Library System.

by Gabriel Wenger

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to work at the Adams County Library System as their newly appointed Financial Coordinator. It is truly a privilege to be part of an organization that plays such a vital role in supporting the community and fostering education, engagement, and lifelong learning. Each day, I am reminded that there is a chance for a brighter future through perseverance, hard work, and determination.

I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such a dedicated and inspiring group of individuals. Throughout every interaction, it is evident to me that the work we do extends far beyond our individual roles. It directly impacts the lives of community members who rely on the Library as a resource, a safe space, and a place of discovery. Being surrounded by colleagues who are so passionate about service and outreach is both motivating and humbling.

I am especially thankful for the opportunity this role has given me to look beyond my own personal struggles and focus on the greater good. Contributing to an organization with such a meaningful mission has been both grounding and rewarding, and I am grateful for the trust and support extended to me by this team. Over the past few weeks, simply by being surrounded by such friendly and compassionate individuals, I have felt a significant physical weight lifted from my shoulders that I thought would burden me for the rest of my life. Having worked only in toxic and self-absorbed environments in the past, walking through the doors of the Adams County Library System for the first time was like breathing a breath of fresh air.

I also deeply appreciate the Library’s commitment to expanding access to items for members beyond books alone. While our collections offer an endless wealth of knowledge, it is inspiring to see how the Library also empowers the community by providing access to games, puzzles, technology, household equipment, tools, and other practical resources. These offerings truly reflect the Library’s dedication to meeting the diverse needs of the community we serve. There are also excellent programs endorsed by the Library that set apart time and energy to engage with the community on a more personal level, offering services to people of all ages.

Thank you again for welcoming me into this incredible organization. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute my skills, grow professionally, and be part of such meaningful work. The Adams County Library System has fostered a newfound hope within me that I can’t wait to spread throughout the community.
