February 1 – April 11 – Schmucker Art Gallery Exhibits @ Gettysburg College – Schmucker Hall
Curated by college students under the direction of Professor Yan Sun – Images of Women in Art: Identity, Female Gaze, and Power – features prints, paintings, carvings, and photography of women artists from the East and West. In the Main Gallery, an exhibit from the Historic Woodstock Art Colony celebrates the work of 50 women artists who were active in the art colony from the early 20th century through the 1970’s. In addition, an international college student from Bangladesh reimagines her beloved rickshaw art within the American cultural landscape. February 2 at 3 pm – Sunderman Wind Quintet @ Musselman Library, Gettysburg College

February 3 at 7:30 pm – Martha Graham Dance Company: A Dual Centennial Event @ Gettysburg Majestic Theater
Martha Graham Dance Company is the oldest dance company in America and has been a leader in evolving contemporary dance since its founding in 1926. This program features iconic works of Graham’s company alongside newly commissioned dances by some of the most dynamic choreographers working today. Tony-Award winner John Rubinstein returns to the Majestic to narrate the iconic Appalachian Spring and perform Bernstein’s Simple Song. Grammy-Award winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra returns to the Majestic to join virtuoso performer and composer Marc-Andre Hamelin in performing arrangements for piano and orchestra, including Liszt’s Wanderer Fantasy, Schubert’s Symphony in B-flat Major, Beethoven’s “Allegretto” from Piano Sonata No. 17, and Hamelin’s Passacaglia for piano and strings.
