Obituary: McKnight Donahugh Guise

McKnight Donahugh Guise, of New Oxford, died February 14, 2025, at 4:33 PM.

Born in Gettysburg in 1939, he graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Army.

From 1956 through 1959, while still in school, he worked part-time at G.C. Murphy Co. and Glenn L. Bream Garage in Gettysburg. From 1960 through 1966, he was an assistant in the Circulation Department of The Gettysburg Times, and from 1966 to 1983 served as Circulation Manager for 17 years. During his time at The Gettysburg Times, he was a member of the Inter-State and International Circulation Managers Associations. He served on the Board of Directors of the Inter-State Circulation Managers Association and was Chairman of the Circulation Committee of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. He conducted several circulation seminars, received over 40 awards for circulation promotion, and had articles published in organizational publications. He was also a member of the American Newspaper Publishers’ Association and the Adams County Mail Users Council of the U.S. Post Office. In 1966, he married Patricia Mummert and made his home in New Oxford.

In 1983 and 1984, he was District Circulation Manager for the Baltimore Sun and the York Daily Record. From 1984 through 2004, he worked for Dal-Tile International of Dallas, Texas, as a 2nd Shift Supervisor at the Bendersville, Lincolnway East, and Gettysburg plants for 20 years, retiring from Dal-Tile in 2004.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in New Oxford. In earlier years, he was also a member of the Gettysburg Jaycees, the Michaux Sports Car Club, the Blue & Gray Band of Gettysburg, and the National Freelance Photographers Association.

In 2016, he received a Certificate from the State and County recognizing 50 consecutive years of voting, and his name was entered into the Voters Hall of Fame in Harrisburg.

McKnight was the son of the late Claire W. Guise and the late Orvie Pyles Guise of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clair G. Guise, and his sister, Ulala A. Guise. His beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia Mummert Guise, passed away on April 27, 2019.

McKnight is survived by his late wife’s brother, Lanny Mummert of New Oxford; his niece Michelle Albright Schultz of Philadelphia and her daughters Sophia and Ella; and his nephew David Albright of Hanover, his wife Heather, and their sons Zachary and Carson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA, with Rev. Preston Van Doursen officiating. Interment will be in New Oxford Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the United Church of Christ Improvement Fund, 20 South Peters Street, New Oxford, PA 17350.
