The Adams County Arts Council invites the community to a dynamic March First Friday celebration on Friday, March 6, featuring an artist exhibition and hands-on mural workshop at 125 S Washington St Gettysburg PA 17325.
ARTIST EXHIBITION
The evening showcases Pennsylvania landscape artist Susan Nicholas Gephart, whose vibrant pastel and oil paintings capture the spontaneity and emotion of natural landscapes. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University (BFA, 1979), Gephart has been professionally exhibiting award-winning work for nearly five decades. Her colorful, impressionistic approach—executed both in-studio and en plein air—has made her a sought-after instructor whose teaching philosophy centers on “Connect, Inspire, Support.”
Gephart has served as faculty for the Plein Air Convention for four years and was international faculty for PleinAir magazine’s virtual event, Pastel Live, in 2021 and 2025. An associate member of the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America, she currently serves as president of the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society and is a founding member of the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central PA. Gephart will return to the Adams County Arts Council in October 2026 to teach a pastel workshop.
Also featured is Maremi Andreozzi, an Alexandria, Virginia-based painter whose work explores themes of feminism, women’s history, and social justice. Andreozzi earned her BFA from Cornell University (1994) and MFA from Clemson University (1997). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in collections including the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, the JD Marriott in Washington, DC, and the DC Commission for the Arts.
Andreozzi is represented by Adah Rose’s Gallery in Kensington, Maryland, and has received fellowship residencies at La Macina di San Cresci in Italy (2019), The Mesa in Utah (2003), and The Cornucopia Art Center in Minnesota (2002). In 2022, she was a semifinalist for the Bethesda Painting Award. Her painting “The Suffragists” was featured in The Phillips Collection exhibition “Inside Outside, Upside Down” (2021) and selected for an audio stop presentation. Several works from her “History Adorned” portrait series are currently on loan in Vienna, Austria, through the Arts in Embassies Program.
Steve Stanton considers himself a self-taught contemporary realist artist. His goal with his painting is to illustrate local manmade structures or natural formations and bring to light their historical significances, whether they are old barns, farms, landscapes or battlefield scenes. Most of his painting works have concentrated on historical Gettysburg, and paints acrylic scenes from his photos taken on travels throughout the northeast. He moved to Pennsylvania from Maryland five years ago, and he and his wife in Amblebrook, a 55 and older community in Gettysburg, Pa.
Stanton received a double major from Towson University in art history and fine arts. Most of his career has involved working as a museum technician in institutions all over the country for the past 40-plus years.
