Obituary: Thomas Howard Walmer

Thomas Howard “Tom” Walmer, 81, of Hanover, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Homewood Living at Plum Creek in Hanover.

Born May 2, 1944, in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence Howard Walmer and Anna Rebecca (Matthias) Walmer.

Tom was a 1962 graduate of South Western High School in Hanover. He earned an associate degree from Penn State University and furthered his education at Gettysburg College and Ohio University. He received a Master of Science degree from Millersville University and later earned a second master’s degree from Western Maryland College.

He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. Tom dedicated his career to education, teaching at South Western High School and later retiring in 1998 as a science teacher from the Spring Grove Area School District.

Tom was a devoted member of Pleasant Hill Brethren Church in Spring Grove, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Mission Board. His faith, commitment to service, and love for teaching left a lasting impact on his church and community.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Donna Lee (Trone) Walmer, whom he married in 1966; his son, Thomas H. Walmer II. and wife Elaine; his grandson, Daniel T. Walmer and wife Rebekah; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Bentley, Timothy, Lucy, Jocelynn, Joleen, and Esther.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Walmer.

A visitation will be held Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Brethren Church, 9002 Orchard Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastors Paul Shirk and Dwane Schildt officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Brethren Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Christian School, 9002 Orchard Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362-8651.
