Frances “Jean” Virginia Ropka, 79, of Gettysburg, PA, died Monday evening, February 23, 2026, at the Gettysburg Hospital.
Born December 28, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Strehlen) Chilcoat. She was the loving wife of Michael W. Ropka, of Gettysburg, to whom she was married for 57 years.
Mrs. Ropka was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, where she was a member of various committees, including secretary of the Gifts and Memorials Committee and co-chair of the Preschool. She worked at the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD, for 34 years, retiring as a management analyst.
In addition to her husband, Frances is survived by her daughter, Laura Staub, of Gettysburg, PA, her three grandchildren, Connor Staub, Parker Staub, and Journey Ropka. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Ropka, who passed in 2011, and her brother, Michael William Chilcoat.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service, Saturday morning at the church. There will be a luncheon and light refreshments following the services.
