Obituary: Ernest Karl Spamer

Ernest Karl Spamer, “Ernie,” entered into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Sunday, the 8th day of March 2026, at the age of 84. Ernie was the only son of Karl G. W. Spamer and Elizabeth G. Spamer. His wife, Diana, predeceased him. Ernie had been a lifelong resident of Littlestown, PA.

He served four years with the U. S. Navy, including participating in the “Cuban Missile Crisis” during October 1962. While in the military, he attended and graduated from two “Class A” schools among the top ten students.

He was a life member of the Littlestown VFW Post 6954 and also a member of Hanover AMVETS Post 22. Upon completing four years of active service, he became involved with serving the Lord at various activities within St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Littlestown. Ernie taught various Sunday School classes ranging from 13 years of age through 70+ years of age for 41 years, and sang with the church choir. Ernie volunteered as a worker with the Littlestown Community Food Pantry prior to New Hope Ministries’ service. For 19 years, he was “Coordinator” for the Littlestown Community CROP WALK. Ernie had served many employers, including Swam Electric, SKF, Alloy Rods, Gromer’s Electric, Delias Fulfillment Center, Hanover Direct, and VISTA Machines of Littlestown, principally as an electrician trouble-shooter and construction electrician. Ernie earned his “Journeyman Electrician” certification while being employed with Alloy Rods.

Ernie is survived by his two daughters, Penny K. Markle (John) and Donna M. Thomas (George), from his first wife, Carolyn, both of Hanover, two Grandsons, Joshua Markle (Molly) of Gardners, PA, and Jordan Markle (Ivy) of Gettysburg. In addition, Ernie also has two step-daughters, Mary Melinda Keller of Littlestown and Christine Marie Barnes of Hanover, a brother-in-law, “Jim” Whetzel (Linda) of Glenville, a Cousin, Jerry Laumann (Anna) of Littlestown, two great-grandsons, and several step-grandchildren and one step great-grandson. There are also several nieces and nephews in the family.

His greatest joy was creating a model H. O. train empire, which never happened.

A service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 53 W. King Street, Littlestown, PA 17340, with Rev. Jennifer Taylor officiating. Family and friends will be received for a viewing on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, 34 Maple Avenue, Littlestown, and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.
