Obituary: William G. Eberlin, Jr

William G. Eberlin, Jr., 80, Gettysburg, PA, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his home.

Born on July 4, 1945, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late William G. and Marie Buchan Eberlin, Sr., Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Eberlin, a son, Steven E. Statland of Asbury Park, NJ, and a daughter, Julie M. Statland of Lewes, DE. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Eberlin.

Mr. Eberlin was a graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD, and St. Bernard College in Cullman, AL. Following graduation, he was employed in the offices of the American Trucking Association in Washington, DC. He was later drafted into the U.S Army and served with distinction in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Volunteer Rescue Squad. In 1976, he joined the D.C. Fire Department and went through their EMT training at the D.C. Fire Academy, which began a 30-year career with the D.C.Fire Department, becoming a Paramedic and rising to the rank of Lieutenant/Paramedic supervisor. After his retirement, he enjoyed more time with his wife and family, reading mysteries and historical novels, working in the vegetable garden, going to Civil War lectures, and touring Civil War historical areas.
