A new community-based effort to combat food insecurity is set to begin this week in Adams County, as Graceful Harvest Community Connection Inc. prepares to launch its Harvest Market, a mobile food pantry serving families in need.
The organization will hold a soft launch this Friday, March 20, marking the first step in what leaders hope will become a reliable and accessible resource for residents across the region. The event is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Upper Bermudian Lutheran Church, 2000 Bermudian Road, Gardners.
The Harvest Market operates as a choice-style pantry, allowing families to select food items that best meet their needs rather than receiving pre-packed boxes. This model is intended to provide greater dignity and flexibility while helping households stretch their grocery budgets more effectively.
The initiative aims to address ongoing food insecurity in Adams County and surrounding communities. By offering a mobile format, the pantry can reach a broader population, including rural residents who may face transportation barriers or limited access to traditional food distribution sites.
During the soft launch, individuals and families experiencing hardship will be able to receive up to four bags of groceries at no cost. The distribution is designed to provide immediate relief while also introducing the community to the new service.
Graceful Harvest Community Connection has indicated that additional distribution dates and locations will be announced following the initial rollout. The group plans to expand its reach in the coming months, building a consistent schedule that residents can rely on.
In addition to serving those in need, the organization is encouraging community involvement. Residents who wish to support the effort can contribute by donating non-perishable food items. The soft launch event will also serve as an opportunity for community members to learn more about the program and connect with organizers.
The Harvest Market reflects a growing trend among food assistance programs to adopt more flexible, community-centered approaches. By combining mobility with a choice-based system, Graceful Harvest aims to create a welcoming environment while addressing practical challenges faced by food-insecure households.
