Obituary: Harry “Dave” David Herring

Harry “Dave” David Herring, 79, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home on March 15, 2026.

Dave was born on October 5, 1946, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Harry Daniel Herring and Rose Zita Hobbs Herring Bream.

Dave married the love of his life, Mona Lee Arentz Herring, on April 8, 1973, and together they built a family filled with warmth and adventure.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona; his children, Shawn Stambaugh (Natasha), Virgil Herring, Valerie Mannon (Steven), and Rocky Herring (Terry); his grandchildren, Keith Stambaugh, Phoenix Russell, Lucas Herring, Cameron Herring, Alexander Mannon, Ann Mannon, Lacey Herring, and Derek Herring; step-grandchildren Chase Brown, Kevin Brown, and Heather Stambaugh; and his great-grandchildren, Jamie Stambaugh, Cameryn Russell, and Hayden Russell.

He is also survived by his siblings, Beverly Heare (James), Debra Herring, and Dennis Herring; and his step-siblings, Ron Bream (Sue), Millie West, Wayne Bream, and Gary Bream.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Maurice Bream; and his son, Jamie Stambaugh.

Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E5).

Dave lived life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the moments spent with family and friends. Whether it was the thrill of a fast car, a beer, or a glass of wine shared in good company, or a quiet moment with a cigar, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Dave was a loving and supportive father, as he spent many years coaching his children in youth sports, attending college graduations, and playing an active role in his grandchildren’s lives.

Dave will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his loyalty, his love of family, his enjoyment of life’s pleasures, and the lasting friendships he built throughout his life.

In keeping with Dave’s wishes, a private service will be held with family and close friends.
