Save the dates for these HGAC events

It’s finally Spring! And that means Historic Gettysburg Adams County is gearing up for a very busy 2026. Be sure to circle the dates for these upcoming programs and events:

–The Architectural Salvage Warehouse will open its doors for the 2026 season on Saturday, April 4 at the Daniel Lady Farm at 986 Hanover Road in Gettysburg. The warehouse has operated on an appointment-only basis throughout the winter, but starting on April 4, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month, through October. The warehouse is a donation-based, volunteer-run operation dedicated to the retrieval and resale of useful and often historic architectural elements, building materials, antique furniture and tools. — HGAC’s Educational Speaker Series will begin on Thursday, April 16 at the G.A.R. Hall, 53 E. Middle Street in Gettysburg, with a talk by Thomas Nank, a research assistant with the American Battlefield Trust and a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer. His topic will be “From Canada to France: The Story of a Michigan Sailor in the Civil War’s Greatest Sea Battle.”  This lecture is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 7 p.m. Other speakers will include Gettysburg Town Guide Ted Hirt on May 21 and author Ron Kirkwood on June 18.

— On Saturday, May 9, HGAC volunteers will participate in Family Day at the Gettysburg Foundation’s Family Day event, held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the George Spangler Farm, 488 Blacksmith Shop Road in Gettysburg. Come tour the historic Spangler barn, famous as a field hospital but also recognized as a premiere example of the iconic Pennsylvania bank barn. HGAC volunteers will offer visitors a detailed look at the barn’s construction and history.

— Beginning May 2, HGAC’s McAllister Mill Underground Railroad Tour will be offered every Saturday, from May through August. HGAC volunteer tour guides will be on hand to meet interested visitors at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the old Mulligan McDuffer’s Golf Course on Baltimore Pike. Suggested donations are $5 for students, $10 for adult. For more information, please call 717-659-8827.

–If you love barns, you’ll love HGAC’s 2026 BarnArt Show & Sale! The exhibit will be held on June 12, 13 and 14 at the G.A.R. Hall on 53 East Middle Street in Gettysburg, and will include the works of up to 50 regional and local artists. The Opening Night reception will be held on Friday, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public. The exhibit will then open to the public on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 14, from noon until 4 p.m.

–Looking forward, HGAC’s annual Historic Barns Tour will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The tour offers the opportunity to visit historic, privately owned barns in the Gettysburg area. All of the barns on the tour will include family-oriented activities.
