Obituary: Yvonne Forry Fair

Yvonne Forry Fair, fondly known to many as “Mother or Bonnie,” peacefully passed away on March 29, 2026, at Cross Keys Village. Born on January 21, 1933, in Waynesboro, PA, Yvonne was the cherished daughter of Ralph and Luella Sachs Forry. Her life, spanning over nine decades, was a symphony of love, laughter, and service, leaving an indelible mark on her family and community.

Yvonne’s journey began in the close-knit community of Waynesboro PA, where she nurtured a love for music and reading that would accompany her throughout her life. After graduating from Gettysburg High School in 1950, she embarked on a career that combined her keen sense of responsibility with her innate ability to connect with others. Initially serving as a receptionist in Dr. James Allison’s medical office, Yvonne found her true calling alongside her late husband, George Fair, as they owned and operated the Perfect Rest Motel on the Emmitsburg Road in Gettysburg from 1959 until 1988. Together, they created a haven of hospitality that welcomed travelers from far and wide.

A woman of many talents, Yvonne’s melodious voice graced both the Gettysburg Civic Choir and the St. James Lutheran Church choir, bringing joy and inspiration to those who listened. Her commitment to service was evident in her involvement with the Gettysburg Soroptimist Club, the Adams County Library, and the local chapter of Eastern Star, where she was honored with a 50-year pin. Yvonne’s roles as Worthy Matron and Grand Esther were a testament to her leadership and devotion to her fellow members.

Yvonne’s vibrant personality shone through in her love for bridge, a pursuit that she enjoyed passionately with several clubs. Her social, funny, and upbeat nature endeared her to all, as did her and George’s memorable appearances as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus during the Christmas season, spreading cheer at family, neighborhood, and civic gatherings.

Her legacy is lovingly carried on by her daughter, Marjorie Seilhamer, and her husband, Don of Waynesboro, PA, and her son, Neil Fair, and his wife, Linda of Dover, PA. Yvonne’s boundless love extended to her four grandchildren: Ben Gossard and his wife Kate; Deb Hoffman and her husband Mike; Valeri Hartman and her husband Keith; and Brad Fair and his wife Deb. The light of her life was further brightened by eight great-grandchildren, six girls and two boys, with a great-great-grandchild on the way, a joyful reminder of the enduring family she helped to build.

Yvonne’s life will be celebrated with a service on May 30, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Nicarry Meetinghouse Chapel at Cross Keys Village, located at 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
