Upper Adams Unites to Celebrate America’s 250th

Residents across Upper Adams are planning a full day of festivities this summer to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, bringing together multiple municipalities for what organizers describe as a once-in-a-generation community event.

The June 13 celebration will begin at 1 p.m. with a parade starting at Biglerville High School and proceeding down Main Street. More than 50 entries are expected, including floats, fire companies, police vehicles, local organizations, and elected officials.

Activities will continue at Oakside Community Park beginning at 2 p.m., featuring a range of family-friendly events including a car and tractor show, cornhole tournament, silent auction, and children’s activities. Food, craft, and beverage vendors will be on site throughout the afternoon.

A “Step Up for History” fitness challenge will encourage attendees to walk the park’s two-mile trail, while live music and entertainment will run throughout the day. Highlights include a flag retirement ceremony at 5:30 p.m. honoring veterans, followed by evening performances and a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

Organizers said the event represents more than a milestone anniversary, emphasizing community unity and collaboration among Arendtsville, Bendersville, Biglerville, Butler Township, and Menallen Township. Volunteers and local sponsors have spent more than a year planning the celebration.

Organizers expressed gratitude to donors and community partners who helped make the event possible, including Kime’s Cider Mill, Bear Mountain Orchards, Waggoner Construction, ACNB Bank, WellSpan Health, A.P.M., and Destination Gettysburg. Additional support came from the Upper Adams Jaycees, American Legion Post 262, @Home in Adams County, Mamma’s Pizza, and Conewago Enterprises, Inc., while the Adams County Commissioners partnered with the county’s Office of Planning and Development.

Mayor Phil Wagner praised the community effort behind the celebration. “I am so appreciative of all the committee chairs, Kelly Shaffer and Kelly Marie Starner’s work, everyone concerned in planning and volunteering, as well as the outpouring support from donors and sponsors for this once in our lifetime event,” he said. “Given the division in our country, I look forward to this day to show America we can come together!”

Organizers said volunteers are still needed and encouraged residents to participate in any or all parts of the day. Shuttle service will be available from Oakside Community Park to the parade route, with accessible parking at the Biglerville Fire Hall. More information is available through the borough’s website and social media pages.
