Obituary: Cecilia M. Demes

Cecilia M. Demes, 68, of Biglerville, PA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at her home.

She was born July 7, 1957, in Gettysburg, PA, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lula Keller Redding. She is survived by her husband, James B. “Jim” Demes. They were married for 39 years and were looking forward to celebrating 40 years in September.

Cecilia was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a 1976 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Cecilia was a nursing assistant at Green Acres / Transitions for 44 years, retiring 3 years ago. She cherished every moment with her family, especially her granddaughters. Cecilia found joy in boating, relaxing at the beach, and taking bus trips with her sisters. She loved visiting the casino, spending time outdoors, and joining her husband at RC plane club events. Her two grand-dogs, Apollo and Rhett, were constant companions who adored her gentle pats and never-ending treats. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to helping others and consistently placed their needs before her own.

In addition to her husband, Cecilia is survived by a daughter, Sara Creek and her husband, Richard, of Manassas, VA, a son, Stephen Demes and his wife, Hannah, of Bay Saint Louis, MS, two granddaughters; Emilie Creek and Margot Demes, brothers and sisters; Rose Mary Bollinger of Gettysburg, PA, Susan Shue of Gettysburg, PA, Gary Redding and his wife, Esther, of Gettysburg, PA, Larry Redding and his wife, Janet, of East Berlin, PA, Russell Redding and his wife, Nina, of Gettysburg, PA, Wayne Redding and his wife, Polly, of New Holland, PA, a sister-in-law, Sheryl Redding of Colorado; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Demes of Summerland Key, FL. She was predeceased by four brothers: Tom Redding, Glenn Redding, Bradley Redding, and Danny Redding; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Demes.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 15th, at 10 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (High Street), Gettysburg, PA, with Fr. Michael Pray as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church (one hour before the service).
