Community members are invited to attend “Healthcare Affordability in Adams County,” a public forum focused on the rising cost of healthcare, access to care in rural communities for seniors and others, and the impact of recent changes to Medicaid, Medicare, Pennie, and the Affordable Care Act on local residents.
The event will take place at St. James Lutheran Church on the corner of York and Stratton Streets in Gettysburg on Wednesday, June 3 at 7:00 PM. Parking is available behind the church, and attendees are asked to enter the building from Zerfing Alley at the rear.
Sponsored by Gettysburg Area Democracy for America, the forum will feature a panel discussion with healthcare advocates and community leaders, followed by audience questions and discussion. The program is part of a series presented in partnership with Blue Storm Action and the Adams County Democratic Committee.
Panelists include Robin Stelly, statewide organizer for the Pennsylvania Health Access Network; Lynn Deardorff, CDP, CMDCP, executive director of the Adams County Office for Aging, Inc.; Andy Winebrenner, Community Services Director at the Adams County Office for Aging; and Will Lane, local healthcare advocate and DFA communications chair.
Retired area physician Dwight Michael will serve as host and moderator for the event. “Former patients often report challenges in finding specialists and maintaining insurance coverage,” Michael said. “Rural hospitals across Pennsylvania are also reported to be feeling some stress. In our area, a growing population of retired or nearly retired people is also contributing to the demand for care. We’re hopeful that our panel will address some of these new challenges.”
The discussion will focus on healthcare affordability, transparency, accountability, accessibility, and the challenges facing rural healthcare systems. Panelists will share both policy perspectives and personal experiences navigating the healthcare system in Adams County and across Pennsylvania.
Community members are encouraged to spread the word about this important discussion.
