Residents across south central Pennsylvania can expect a taste of summer over the next several days as hot, humid weather settles into the region, bringing temperatures near 90 degrees and the possibility of strong thunderstorms.
Forecasters say daytime highs Thursday and Friday will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, marking one of the warmest stretches of the season so far. The heat will be accompanied by a significant increase in humidity, making conditions feel even more uncomfortable.
The combination of heat and moisture in the atmosphere is also expected to fuel scattered thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. Meteorologists say some storms could become strong or severe, producing heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and hail.
The greatest risk for thunderstorms is expected from mid-afternoon through early evening, although some storms may develop earlier in the day or continue into the nighttime hours.
Forecasters note that thunderstorms thrive in hot, humid conditions, and the current weather pattern is creating favorable conditions for repeated rounds of storm development across much of Pennsylvania.
