The National Apple Museum in Biglerville is inviting the community to become part of a special keepsake celebrating the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.
The museum has created an America 250 anniversary quilt, and community members can have their names added to the quilt for a $2.50 donation. The project offers residents and visitors an opportunity to leave their mark on a unique piece of local history.
The National Apple Museum collected signatures for the quilt during Saturday’s Upper Adams 250th celebration at Oakside Park. Those who missed the opportunity can still participate at upcoming community events, including the South Mountain Fair and the Fall Fest at the Biglerville Fire Department.
In addition to the quilt project, visitors to the Apple Museum will notice ongoing improvements to the historic barn. Recent work includes restoration efforts on the museum’s eastern barn wall, helping preserve the building for future generations.
Apple Museum volunteer Edy Sarnoff announced that the eastern wall restoration on the barn was completed this week. Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of the Gettysburg Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Adams County Technical Institute students finished their work on the barn several weeks ago. They had a celebration with Historic Gettysburg Adams County (HGAC) where they received certificates and tiny planes from HGAC’s Youth Initiative Program.
Work will now continue the work on the upper story and the south wall. This work will continue to be under contractor David Maclay’s oversight and will preserve the local history and heritage of Adams County’s apple and tree fruit industry.
The National Apple Museum encourages residents and visitors to stop by, explore the exhibits, and see the restoration work taking place. From agricultural history to community celebrations, the museum continues to be a place where local stories are preserved and shared.
