July 1 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies @ Majestic Theater   www.gettysburgmajestic.org   The Mighty Ducks (1992) features a self-centered Minnesota lawyer (Emilio Estevez) who is sentenced to community service coaching a rag tag youth hockey team.  He’s never coached! They’ve never won! Together they’ll learn everything about winning. Tickets are $10.

July 1-4 – Come From Away (musical) @ Totem Pole Playhouse    When the world stopped, kindness took flight in this hopeful, uplifting musical capturing the true story of a small Newfoundland town welcoming stranded travelers in the aftermath of 9/11. July 3 at 7:30 pm – The Gettysburg Book – A Father, Son and the Killer Angels – Premiere @ Majestic Theater   A new documentary film set to be released this summer will explore the untold story of Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Killer Angels, which directly inspired Ken Burns’ epic series The Civil War as well as the 1993 film, Gettysburg. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the filmmakers Jake Borritt and Gordon Beittenmiller, as well as author Jeff Shaara.  Tickets are $20.  www.gettysburgmajestic.org

July 4 at 10 am – Flutes on the Fourth @ Hotel Gettysburg   Approximately 70 flute players, directed by Edie Rice, gather on the steps at the Gettysburg Hotel to play patriotic and Civil War music.  Admission is free.   For more information: edie@ermusicrepair.com

July 4 all day – A Gettysburg Fourth @ Gettysburg Rec Park   Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a day full of energy, music, and hometown pride. The Farmers Market begins at 8 am followed by family activities and food vendors. Live music starts in the afternoon with The Willys, Great Train Robbery, and the 90-member US Army Field Band. Extended fireworks sponsored by Destination Gettysburg will bring a spectacular celebration to a conclusion. Free admission, $5 parking fee.  More information:   www.destinationgettysburg.com

July 4 at 7:30 pm – Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital @ Christ Lutheran Church       The live performance shares the authentic history of how Christ Lutheran was used as a Civil War hospital during and after the Battle of Gettysburg. Each performance includes the sharing of first person accounts from soldiers and nurses, poetry, music and stories. July 17 – August 2 – 1776 (musical) @ Gettysburg Community Theatre   A funny, insightful, and compelling drama with a striking score and legendary book. Follow John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence. July 19 at 6 pm – Kolodner Quartet @ United Lutheran Seminary Pavilion      Baltimore  musicians Ken and Brad Kolodner are a father-son acoustic roots string band built on family, renovation, and a shared passion for Old Time music. What began as informal living-room sessions grew into a nationally touring collaboration. You will hear hammered dulcimer, clawhammer banjo, fiddle and much, much more at this concert. Bring a picnic, some lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy this beautiful music in the great outdoors. July 29 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies @ Majestic Theater     Somewhere in Time (1980) stars Chistopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummerand was filmed on Mackinac Island. A Chicago playwright uses self-hypnosis to travel back intime and meet the actress whose vintage portrait hangs in a grand hotel. Originally a box office bomb, it has morphed into a cult classic. July 31-August 16 – South Pacific (musical) @ Totem Pole Playhouse                  This is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most iconic musical of complicated love on a balmy island in the midst of WW II.  The musical is about an American nurse stationed on a South Pacific island, who falls in love with a middle-aged expatriate French plantation owner.  Tickets are $55-$66. www.totempoleplayhouse.org

Gail Jones

Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor. Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
