Obituary: James Simmons McGinnis

James “Jim” Simmons McGinnis, 68, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on July 21, 2026, with his beloved family by his side. Jim touched many lives with his faith, wisdom, and perseverance.

After serving honorably in the US Marine Corps from 1976 to 1985, Jim transitioned to a civilian career, supervising at Roadway Express from 1986 to 1999. He later founded and operated Jim-TheComputerGuy.com in Carlisle, PA, from 2002 until his retirement in 2020. Jim was a devout member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. He was involved in various religious and community activities, including Bible Studies, Our Lady Queen of Peace Rosary Makers, “ROMEO” Men’s Breakfast Group, Knights of Columbus, and Ancient Order of Hibernians. Jim also enjoyed reading, fishing, playing backgammon, and was a gifted storyteller, often captivating his listeners with vivid tales.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Emilie, and their children, Joseph (Theresa Rose), Andrew (Nancy), Jeremiah (Rachel Marie), David (girlfriend Lunara), and Rachel Irene. Jim really cherished his grandchildren: Sebastian, Claire, and Emberance. He is also survived by his brother, Mark McGinnis (Emy), and sister, Mary (Luther) Coleman. Jim was preceded in death by his son Jacob, brothers Henry (Theresa) and Malcolm Daniel, sister Coleen, and his parents, Phyllis Buzzanell and Malcolm McGinnis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 27, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, PA, at 2:00 PM with Fr. Michael Pray as celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and Monday at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of the Mass.
