Finding community isn’t always easy. Whether you are new to the area, looking for a new hobby, or simply hoping to meet people with similar interests, the library offers opportunities to connect. Here’s a simple guide to the recurring programs at the Gettysburg Library.
Book clubs offer lively conversations and a chance to discover new books and authors alongside fellow readers. Right now, the book clubs include Historical Fiction, Revolutionary Reads, Science Fiction, Nonfiction, and Mystery.
The Books and Brews program meets once a month at different local locations, including restaurants, coffee shops, wineries, and more. If you like to read or talk about books but tend to struggle with assigned reading, this is the place for you! Come share what you’ve read lately, whether you liked it or didn’t, and leave with a long list of suggestions.
The library also hosts several movie groups. One group is Film Fridays, where the movie is always based on a book. If you are interested, you are encouraged to read the book to discuss the differences afterward, but there is no requirement to read – just come and enjoy. During this celebratory 250th anniversary, the library is also offering a Patriotic Pictures group, where a Revolutionary-themed movie is shown once a month.
Do you like to write? Writers Workshop is a group where you can come write and share your work with other writers, ask for feedback, or give feedback on others’ work. Personal sharing and discussion of individual writing will be encouraged during each session, but personal sharing is not required.
Do you know how to play American Mahjong? The Gettysburg Library has started offering Mahjong sessions every Tuesday morning. Whether you are an expert, a beginner, or someone who wants to learn, this is a great group to spend time with each week. You are not committed to coming every week, so stop in whenever you can.
Interested in genealogy? Want to learn more about your ancestors? The library’s Genealogy Club meets to explore various techniques and sources for researching family history. You do not have to be an expert researcher to join the group.
Not near the Gettysburg Library? Every Adams County Library location offers recurring opportunities to connect with others. Depending on the branch, recurring programs include book clubs, diamond painting gatherings, craft and social groups, movie programs, coloring groups, American Sign Language, and more. Check the program calendar or with your local library to see what recurring programs are offered and discover a new way to connect with your community.
These are just some of the recurring programs the library offers. Check out the library webpage or program calendar for additional crafts, technology classes, history programs, and special events.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a long-term resident or visiting for the first time. Whatever your interests, there’s a place to connect at the Gettysburg Library.
