Obituary: Carol Elaine Salisbury

Carol Elaine Salisbury passed away on August 2, 2026, at the age of 82, in the little home she loved so much. Carol was born on April 2, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, to George Edwin and Lillian Esther Litz. Carol was an only child, yet found great joy in the love of her pet cats and nearby aunts and uncles.

Soon after high school, Carol married Wayne Edward Salisbury. They fulfilled their dream of building a home in the Maryland countryside, where they raised their two children, David and Isla. They poured all of their love into raising their children and giving them the best opportunities they could. They passed on a love of animals and nature. Every fall, kids and dogs piled into the family pickup truck and headed to the Shenandoah Mountains, where they camped and made memories to cherish.

After the sudden death of her husband, Carol moved to Coopersburg, PA, to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. While there, she volunteered for Animals in Distress, a shelter in Coopersburg. Carol had a deep respect and love for the dogs and cats she cared for, and for the employees and volunteers working at the shelter. Carol’s final move took her to Gettysburg, PA, where she settled into a small home located on her son’s farm. There, she continued her volunteering with Forever Love Rescue. She loved nothing more than being cozy at home with her cats, enjoying her garden, beautiful views, and the cattle in the nearby field. Having grown up in a Lutheran family, her strong faith was her bedrock.

Carol is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Cynthia Salisbury; her daughter Isla Salisbury; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

As Carol wished, her memorial service will be private. Donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the Forever Love Rescue Endowed Fund at the Adams County Community Foundation or Animals in Distress, PO Box 609, Coopersburg, PA 18036.
