Exciting Happenings at ACOFA!

The Adams County Office for Aging, Inc. (ACOFA) is having a busy summer! We are excited to announce that we still have Farmers Market Nutritional Program (FMNP) checks available for Adams County residents. Each eligible person can receive $25 in vouchers toward produce grown in Pennsylvania. Eligibility requirements: Income must be $29, 526 or less for individuals, $40,034 for a 2-person household, or $50, 542 for a 3-person household. You must be 60 or over and show proof of age and Adams County residency. You may pick up the vouchers at our office located at 318 West Middle Street in Gettysburg while they last.

Our PA Medi (Medicare Education and Decision Insight) volunteers continue to take appointments to counsel individuals on Medicare. They have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Medicare and stay updated on changes. They help people understand their options and offer an unbiased insight into what is best for each individual beneficiary. If you would like to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors, please reach out to us at 717-334-9296.

On the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 3PM, ACOFA offers an Alzheimer’s/dementia Caregiver support group. This group was started in 2017 and has been going strong since its formation. Caregivers can express their hardships, frustrations and moments of joy with other caregivers without fear of repercussion or judgement. For more information on this group, please email Jess at jmccuth@acofa.org.
On August 22nd, ACOFA will be setting up a table at the Adams County Farmer’s Market for Community Health Discovery Day. Please stop by our table and learn more about what services we provide and potential volunteer opportunities. On September 16th we will be at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library in Biglerville as part of the Adams County library system’s Senior Resource Fair. We are looking forward to this opportunity to connect with more members of our community.

On September 18th, ACOFA will be holding their first golf tournament at the Gettysburg National Golf Club in Fairfield. The cost is $360 per foursome. Registration starts at 6:30AM with an 8AM shotgun start. Proceeds support ACOFA’s mission to provide vital services that help Adams County residents age 60 and over live independently at home. For more information, contact Andy Winebrenner at winebren@acofa.org. We are currently seeking golfers, sponsors and gift basket donations to raffle off. Please come out and support our over 60 community!

Mark your calendars for September 29th. ACOFA will be partnering with Wendy’s located at 1268 York Street in Gettysburg. Supporters can order anytime that day to benefit ACOFA’s programs. You may order in-restaurant or at the drive thru. (This does not work with online or delivery orders.) When you order, mention ACOFA and we will receive 20% of the proceeds!

Last but definitely not least, we are excited to announce that we will be participating once again in the Adams County Community Foundation’s Giving Spree on November 5th! Please join us at Wyndham in Gettysburg from 3pm-7pm that day and learn about the incredible work that all the non-profit participants do.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
