United Lutheran Seminary has been awarded a $1.974 million grant from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to renovate its historic Gettysburg campus, part of a nearly $4 million project that will be matched by institutional and private support.
The project’s centerpiece is a renovation of the seminary’s historic Refectory, along with upgrades to visitor accommodations, conference facilities, campus infrastructure and accessibility. The seminary’s Gettysburg campus sits on Seminary Ridge, a site central to the Battle of Gettysburg, and draws thousands of visitors annually for educational programs, conferences and church gatherings.
“This award represents an important investment in the future of Seminary Ridge,” said the Rev. Dr. R. Guy Erwin, president of United Lutheran Seminary. “For generations, our Gettysburg campus has been a place of learning, hospitality, reflection, and community gathering. These improvements will preserve historic facilities while ensuring they remain welcoming, accessible, and useful for generations to come.”
The seminary credited Gov. Josh Shapiro, state Sen. Doug Mastriano, state Rep. Dan Moul and state Rep. Torren Ecker for backing the project, along with the Adams County Industrial Development Authority, which partnered with the seminary during the application process.
The grant is part of a broader effort by United Lutheran Seminary to maintain both of its historic campuses, in Gettysburg and Philadelphia, as the seminary marks its bicentennial in 2026.
