Obituary: Susan Marian Jones

Susan Marian Jones, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, with her niece, nephews, and brother by her side.

Born July 21, 1954, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Walton H. and Miriam (Crist) Jones.

Susan dedicated her professional life to the Gettysburg Animal Hospital, serving as a Veterinary Technician. At age fourteen, she began by cleaning kennels, advancing to going on “Farm Calls,” then assisting with surgeries. In more recent years, coordinating services from the front desk. She began with the professional practice of Dr. Ralph Jackson and retired in 2019 from the practice of Dr. John Dodson. A total of fifty-one years.

She had a focus in life… on the care and welfare of animals. A special emphasis was a devotion to her niece and nephews, their spouses and children. She enjoyed all their activities and achievements – continuously encouraging and supportive. Exceedingly proud of each and all.

She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School, Class of 1972. She attended Pennsylvania State University, majoring in biology, of course! She was formerly a member of the Gettysburg Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Walton Crist Jones and his wife Pamela of Gettysburg; nephew, Lt. Col. David Walton Jones and his wife Heather, of Fairfield, PA; nephew, Ryan Crist Jones and his wife Heather, of Bendersville, PA; and her niece, Andrea Jones Sieg and her husband Josh, of Hanover, PA. Her grand-nephews, Riley Walton Sieg and Henry David Jones, and her grand-nieces, Carys Bennett Sieg and Samantha Lee Jones. Also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.

Services will be held at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg, on Friday, August 14, 2026. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Pallbearers will be Josh Sieg, Riley Sieg, Henry Jones, David Jones, Ryan Jones, and Kenneth Kime. A reception will follow at the Dobbin House in Gettysburg.
