Community Action Requested: Help Make Route 94 & Old Harrisburg Road Safer

Following the tragic crash this past Friday that took the life of our beloved Vickie Wolf, our family and members of the community want to turn this heartbreaking loss into action that may help prevent another family from experiencing the same tragedy.

The intersection of Route 94 (Carlisle Pike) and Old Harrisburg Road carries far more traffic than many people realize. Every day, school buses, motorcoaches, commercial trucks, local residents and commuters must enter or cross Route 94 from Old Harrisburg Road while traffic travels along this busy state highway.

Construction Work Sign, Flaggers and Cones

We believe it is time for this intersection to receive a formal safety review.

The York Springs Borough Council meets Tuesday evening, August 18, and we plan to present a formal request along with community signatures asking the Borough to work with the appropriate neighboring municipality and PennDOT to pursue safety improvements at this intersection.

We are asking that the following be considered:

IMMEDIATE SAFETY MEASURES
• Improved and/or oversized intersection warning signage
• Flashing warning beacons or enhanced stop-sign visibility where appropriate
• Review and clearing of vegetation or other sight-distance obstructions
• Any additional short-term safety measures PennDOT recommends

LONG-TERM SAFETY REVIEW
• A formal traffic and engineering study of the intersection
• Review of crash history, traffic volume, vehicle speeds and sight distance
• Consideration of an all-way stop, flashing traffic-control devices, a roundabout, traffic signal, or other improvements determined appropriate through the engineering study

OUR GOAL IS 100+ COMMUNITY SIGNATURES TO PRESENT TO BOROUGH COUNCIL TUESDAY NIGHT.

If you live in the area, travel Route 94, have children riding school buses through this area, own a local business, or simply want to support making this intersection safer, please add your name. WHERE TO SIGN:
Wolf’s Bus Lines
200 Old US Route 15
York Springs, PA

 Monday & Tuesday | 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

The completed signature list will be presented to York Springs Borough Council, along with our formal request that they help move this safety initiative forward with the appropriate local and state officials.

This is about more than one family. It is about doing everything we reasonably can to make this intersection safer for our school children, professional drivers, local businesses, residents and everyone who travels this road.

Please SHARE so we can gather as much community support as possible.

Let’s turn our heartbreak into something that could save a life.
