Obituary: George F. Gobel

George F. Gobel, age 89, of Biglerville, passed away August 19, 2026, at home, surrounded by family. He was born November 15, 1936, in Grayson, KY, to the late Albert John and Gladys Bernice (Griffith) Gobel.

He retired 40 years ago as a machine operator for Western Electric (now Nokia); he was a self-taught woodworker, enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cabin in Kentucky, and watched the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. George loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Janice M. (Glass) Gobel of Biglerville; daughters, Lisa Gayle Gobel of Biglerville and Pamela Jan Kerbe and husband, Robert of Manchester, MD; grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Tim Rohrer of Elizabethtown, Daniel McLucas and wife, Emily of Gettysburg, Elizabeth and husband, Greg Gartside of Manchester, MD, Robert Kerbe and wife, Layne of Glen Rock and Grace and husband, Andrew Burdette of Sykesville, MD; 9 great-grandchildren and these siblings; Joyce Sachs of Maryland, Albert Gobel, Jr. of Connecticut, Brenda Henson of Maryland and Donna Jean Pinkerton of Kentucky. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Robin Gobel. George was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anita Gay Gobel, and son, George Keith Gobel

Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. Friends will be received on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 11:00am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm. Dan Summers will officiate the funeral. George will be laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie, MD, on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
