Mary Elizabeth “M.E.” Gruver, 96, of New Oxford, died September 18, 2026, at Cross Keys Village. Born in Newville, she was the daughter of C. Lee and Mary (Fry) Lehman. Her husbands, Willis B. Van Dyke and Darwin Gruver, preceded her in death.
Gruver taught kindergarten in York Suburban School District for 25 years. She sang in the choir at Advent Lutheran Church in York for 68 years and enjoyed travel, piano and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her children, Gretchen Sipes, Mary Ann Vance and Richard Van Dyke; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Barb Nelson; and longtime friend Gail Thomas. Her siblings Richard Lehman and Suzanne Richardson also preceded her in death.
Services will be private, according to her wishes.
