Upper Adams students benefited from 28 education-enhancement projects funded by the Canner Educational Foundation during the 2025–26 school year, the foundation said in a recent update.
The projects supported opportunities for students and teachers that are not covered through the school district’s traditional budget. All 28 began as ideas from teachers.
Among the projects were an after-school third-grade Art Club offering painting, printmaking, clay and journal activities; theater opportunities for middle and high school students; and visits to the Holocaust Museum, Gettysburg Battlefield and Eisenhower Museum. Other efforts included pottery for life skills students at Under the Horizon, a fifth-grade environmental education trip, first-grade bread-making, the Sole Sisters running and health program, new stoves for the Culinary Arts classroom and Color Day.
The foundation said two grant cycles are planned for the current school year. It has already awarded 15 grants in the first round, including support for an Artist in Residence, several field trips and spring theater.
Canner also helps pay for field-trip transportation, provides startup gift cards for teachers and hosts an annual breakfast for teachers on Opening Day.
The foundation received 501(c)(3) status in 2025, making it eligible for tax-deductible contributions throughout the year and allowing it to seek foundation grants. It will take part in the Adams County Community Foundation’s Giving Spree on Nov. 5 at the Wyndham in Gettysburg.
