Economic development professionals will gather in Gettysburg Oct. 26–28

Pennsylvania economic development professionals are scheduled to meet in Gettysburg Oct. 26–28 for the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association’s annual conference. PEDA lists the Wyndham Gettysburg, at 95 Presidential Circle, as the conference site.

The association describes the gathering as a chance for people working in local, county, regional and state economic development to share information and discuss current challenges. Its attendee groups include workforce professionals, developers, elected officials and people from utilities, transportation, engineering and construction.

The conference comes to Adams County at a time when the region is working to attract and retain employers while supporting established industries. Adams Economic Alliance, the local economic development organization, said hosting the event gives the county a chance to introduce its economy and development work to peers from around Pennsylvania.

In its announcement, the Alliance pointed to Adams County’s mix of agriculture, small businesses and manufacturing. Those sectors face different needs, from workforce recruitment and transportation access to keeping smaller firms viable.

PEDA’s agenda includes discussion of the local share account program and the community effects of casino revenue during a preconference session. The association says the main program is intended for people involved in economic and community development.

That mix of public officials and private-sector participants reflects the broad reach of economic development decisions. A project can affect employers and workers, but also local infrastructure, land use and the public services communities need to support growth.

The meeting itself is a professional conference, not an Adams County public hearing on a specific development proposal. The published descriptions focus on training, discussion and networking; they do not announce a local project outcome.

The gathering will put Gettysburg in the role of host and case study for a few days. Any longer-term effect on local investment or partnerships will depend on what participants do after the conference, rather than on attendance alone.
