Carroll E. Groft, 98, of Gettysburg

Carroll E. Groft, 98, of Gettysburg, died peacefully at home Oct. 1, 2026. He and his wife, Lorna D. (Loss) Groft, shared 76 years of marriage. Groft was born Sept. 3, 1928, in McSherrystown, the son of the late Albert A. and Regina M. Pohlman Groft.

He worked for Harry Cramer Tire Company for 27 years, then owned and operated C.E. Groft Tires and Auto Sales beginning in 1984. He retired at 91. Groft enjoyed hunting, bank fishing at local lakes, time in his garage, and gatherings with family. His family recalled holiday picnics and crab feeds as favorite traditions.

Survivors include his wife; children Randy Groft, Brenda Lewis and Lori Groft; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings Jeanne Orndorff and Donald Groft. He was preceded in death by grandchildren Megan and Kevin Lewis, four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Oct. 6 at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home in McSherrystown, with burial at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Hanover. The family requested memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Hanover.
