Derek Andrew Smith, 28, of Hanover, died unexpectedly Sept. 27, 2026. Born in York on June 4, 1998, he was the son of Joanie L. Kebil-Smith and the late Andrew G. Smith.
Smith graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 2017 and West Virginia University in 2021, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked as a customer service and route analyst for Campbell Snacks in Hanover.
He enjoyed golf and spending time on the course with friends. He also liked poker, scratch-off lottery tickets, cooking, and working out at the Hanover YMCA. The obituary describes him as a loyal friend who valued family vacations and looked forward to becoming an uncle.
Smith is survived by his mother, sister Ali M. Vizzard and her husband, Thomas; paternal grandparents Thomas and Joyce Smith and Prudence Reichart; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents Joseph and Patricia Kebil, and paternal grandfather Frank Reichart.
A visitation and memorial Mass were held Oct. 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. Interment was private. Smith was an organ donor. The family requested donations to Gift of Life’s Howie’s House or Delone Catholic High School in lieu of flowers.
