Martha J. (Foote) Shindledecker, 82, of Gettysburg, died peacefully at home on September 29, 2026. She and her husband, Kermit R. Shindledecker, shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Pittsburgh on May 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Rout) Foote.

Known as Marty, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and attending car shows with her husband. She supported Kermit’s interest in drag racing and served as his “pit crew.” Her family remembers her as an attentive listener who was present for people when they needed her.

In addition to her husband, survivors include daughters Shelle Bennett and Dee Potter; granddaughters Jessica Bennett Smith and Nicole Lawrence; and great-grandchildren Emma, Addison, Bailey, Isabella and Cooper. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Janet Foote Johnson and Mary Foote Conner, and brother Robert “Bobby” Foote.

A celebration of life is scheduled for October 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lake Heritage Community Center in Gettysburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adams County Library. Read the full notice and leave condolences.
