WellSpan Opens Behavioral Health Walk-In Crisis Center in Gettysburg

WellSpan Health opened a behavioral health walk-in crisis center Monday, Oct. 12, at the Gettysburg Shopping Center, 39 West St., offering people experiencing mental health crises immediate assessment, stabilization and referrals without an appointment.

The center is open seven days a week and is intended to provide an alternative to emergency department care for people who do not require emergency medical treatment. WellSpan said services include same-day evaluations, suicide and violence risk assessments, short-term stabilization and connections to outpatient and community-based care.

“This center will offer people in crisis a welcoming front door to care right here in our community,” said Michael Cogliano Sr., president of WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. “This center provides immediate, compassionate support while helping connect people with the right care, at the right time and in the right setting outside of the emergency department.”

People arriving at the center will meet with a behavioral health team that may include licensed clinicians, nurses and peer-support professionals. Those needing emergency medical treatment will be transferred to a hospital emergency department.

The center was developed in partnership with York/Adams HealthChoices, county mental health and developmental disability programs and Community Care Behavioral Health. WellSpan’s mobile crisis services will continue in Adams and York counties.

“The Adams County Commissioners are proud to partner with WellSpan and our community agencies in supporting the new Behavioral Health Walk-In Crisis Center in Adams County,” said Adams County President Commissioner Randy Phiel.

Adams County residents may also call the crisis line at 717-851-5320 or 800-673-2496 at any time. Additional information is available at WellSpan.org/GettysburgCrisis.
