Gettysburg Halloween parade will close Lincoln Square Tuesday evening

Lincoln Square will close from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, for Gettysburg’s annual Halloween parade, borough police announced.

Police expect heavy traffic downtown and encourage drivers to avoid the area when possible.

Motorists who must travel through the area should watch for children, the department said in its Oct. 15 notice.

The borough’s event calendar lists parade-related activity from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Those calendar hours differ from the longer square closure announced by police.

The listing identifies York Street, Lincoln Square, and Baltimore Street among the event locations.

The borough lists Wednesday, Oct. 21, as the rain date, with the same event hours.

The 4:30 p.m. time marks the announced start of restrictions and the calendar’s event window; neither notice reviewed for this report identifies the procession’s starting time.

Drivers planning evening trips through central Gettysburg should account for the square closure when choosing their route.
