Richard D. Fields, 86, of New Oxford, died Oct. 20, 2026, at Cross Keys Village–The Brethren Home Community. Born July 11, 1940, in Seaboard, Virginia, he was the son of Henry F. and Lottie L. Altizer Fields.
Fields was a 1958 graduate of Eichelberger High School in Hanover. He served in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps during the Vietnam era and retired from the military after 22 years. He later worked for 20 years in the operating room at Hanover Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Welk Fields, with whom he shared nearly 63 years of marriage; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother; and other relatives. His children, John Fields and Susan Hamm, and his brother Douglas Fields preceded him in death.
Funeral services and interment will be held later at the Gettysburg National Cemetery Annex. Memorial contributions may be made to Roots for Boots in New Oxford. Murphy-Beck Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
