How It Happened…

  • First Half: It didn’t take long for the Bullets to get on the scoreboard as Molina feed a crisp pass to Fife for the early 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest. The Garnet, who earned an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament, answered back quickly with a tally of their own to tie it up at 1-1 with 33 minutes remaining. Gettysburg struggled to get anything flowing offensively afterward as the team only took one shot for the rest of the half. Muhic kept it a 1-1 game with a pair of saves in the 19th and 30th minute, respectively.
  • Second Half: Gettysburg fired four shots in the first 15 minutes, including back-to-back attempts at the frame by freshman Aidan Giquinto (Medford Lakes, N.J./Shawnee) and Fife, but Max Kral made the saves between the pipes. The tides turned as the half went on, shots-wise, as the Garnet pounded six in the second part of the period. Swarthmore’s second goal took a deflection that unfortunately went into the back of the net in the 85th minute, which ended up being the eventual game-winner. The hosted finished the period with a 9-4 edge on shots.

By the Numbers

  • Swarthmore finished with advantages in shots (18-6), while Gettysburg held the edge in corner kicks (4-3).
  • It was the second one-goal loss for the Bullets this season.
  • Both Gettysburg and Swarthmore are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Region V poll at No. 7 and No. 9, respectively

Where the Series Stands Now
Gettysburg and Swarthmore hold a 16-16-2 all-time series that dates back to the first-ever meeting in 1931. The Garnet has now won the last three games.
