A Message from Gettysburg’s Mayor

As I complete my first six weeks serving as Mayor of the Borough of Gettysburg, I’d like to share several recent highlights, recognize members of our community, and invite continued engagement with the Borough.

This month, we thanked dedicated members of the Gettysburg Police Department. Officer Bill Orth who marked 22 years of service on February 2, and Officer Jordan Klunk who marked 8 years of service on February 18. Additionally, Sgt. Chris Evans was nominated by the fraternity and sorority community at Gettysburg College for the Outstanding Community Partner Award, recognizing his dedication and positive impact. The commitment of our Police Department to protect all members of our community is deeply appreciated.

In January, I joined many in the community at the 44th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Celebration at the Chapel at Gettysburg College. During the event, I presented a Proclamation for Infinite Hope, encouraging residents and visitors to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and carry forward his message of hope, dignity, and nonviolence.

The Memorial Day Parade Commission began planning for the annual event scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. I am happy to assist on this commission any way possible, and I encourage everyone to donate, participate, and attend as we honor our fallen service members.

Project Gettysburg–León was presented a proclamation for its work strengthening lives, relationships, and shared humanity between Gettysburg and its sister city, León, Nicaragua.

Gettysburg College’s Majestic Theater was recognized during a performance of the Martha Graham Dance Company, as both celebrate their Centennial Seasons. A proclamation recognized the Majestic Theater and Karl Held Week, encouraging continued community engagement with the arts.

I have recently become a basketball fan, thanks to former student Joshua Herr. He is part of the Gettysburg College Men’s Basketball team as it continues an impressive winning streak. The Bullets currently sit in first place in the Centennial Conference with two games remaining before the tournament playoffs. I look forward to cheering them on. Go Bullets!

Valentine’s Day weekend brought another celebration of community spirit, as 100 couples participated in the third annual Gettysburg Loves Love event with free marriage vow renewals in partnership with Main Street Gettysburg, Destination Gettysburg, and the Gettysburg Railway.

In addition to these public events, I have been meeting with residents, small business owners, Borough Council and staff, the Police Department, as well as Gettysburg College President and Student Senate. Later this month, conversations will continue with leaders in education, health, tourism, and business to strengthen collaboration during this transition.

My office hours are held Wednesdays from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the Borough Municipal Building, with additional hours from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. on February 16, March 16, and April 20 at the Bullet Hole in the Student Union Building at Gettysburg College. Appointments are also available by email at ccarr@gettysburgpa.gov

Thank you for your continued engagement and support and for allowing me to serve this unique and beautiful town.
